New Rules for "Green" Hotels

The Department of Tourism is now preparing to update the rules used to grade hotels. The current rules were made in 2019, but the government feels it is time for a change to keep up with global trends.

The department has officially asked for suggestions from experts and the public. The new rules will focus on:

  • Green Hospitality: Setting standards for environmentally friendly practices.
  • Service Quality: Improving the quality of services and physical buildings.
  • Sustainability: Ensuring that hotels operate in a way that protects the environment.

The government believes that modern travelers care more about nature and sustainable development, so the new grading system will help Nepal's hotels compete better in the world market.
