Kathmandu - The Department of Tourism has officially asked all operators of adventure and entertainment sports to obtain a formal license.
Himal Gautam, the Information Officer for the department, issued a statement today calling for the mandatory registration of activities like bungee jumping, canyoning, and ziplining.
The department is taking this step to bring all adventure sports currently operating without permission into the legal system. This includes activities such as skydiving, swings, zip-coasters, jet skiing, and motorboating.
Officials have urged businesses to not run these sports without a license and have given existing operators 30 days to get their permits.
According to the Tourism Act of 1978 and the Tourism Industry Service Delivery Manual of 2013, any company involved in adventure tourism must get a license from the department.
The department issued this notice after receiving complaints that many activities are running without permission and failing to follow safety standards.
The statement emphasized that these sports involve high safety risks and must follow strict guidelines. Running these activities without a proper safety analysis or a license is considered a violation of the law.
