Rameshwar Shah, the former Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), has officially launched a new project to build a luxury five-star hotel in Janakpur. The project, led by Mithila Hospitality, recently celebrated its ground-breaking ceremony (Bhumi Pujan) on Monday, May 4, 2026.
This investment follows the successful opening of Shah’s Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan, which began operations last year. The new venture aims to elevate the hospitality standards in Janakpur, a city of immense religious and historical importance.
Project Details and Timeline
The hotel is estimated to cost approximately Rs 2 billion. Construction is expected to take three years, with the target opening date set for Baisakh 2086 (mid-May 2029).
Key features of the upcoming hotel include:
- Capacity: 124 rooms and 372 beds spread over roughly 2.5 bighas of land.
- Facilities: The property will feature modern dining areas, large conference halls, a swimming pool, a health club, and a spa.
- Employment: Once operational, the hotel is expected to provide direct jobs to around 150 people, boosting the local economy.
Boosting Religious Tourism
Janakpur is a major hub for pilgrims and travelers, especially those visiting the Janaki Temple and following the Ramayana Circuit. Investors believe that an international-standard five-star hotel will attract more high-end tourists and wedding groups to the region.
The ceremony was attended by Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav and other high-level officials, highlighting the government's support for large-scale tourism infrastructure in the province.
