Nepal’s tourism market is diversifying! With over 107,000 visitors in April 2026, the country sees a strong recovery and a growing interest from Asian and Western markets despite global travel challenges.

Kathmandu, May 4: Nepal welcomed over 107,000 international tourists in April 2026. According to the latest data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Monday, a total of 107,934 foreign visitors arrived in the country during the month.

The statistics show a diverse range of visitors from across the globe, with South Asia remaining the strongest market for Nepal’s tourism.

Arrivals by Region

  • South Asia (SAARC): This region contributed the highest number of visitors with 33,432 tourists, accounting for 31% of the total arrivals.
  • Other Asian Countries: 26,726 tourists arrived from various parts of Asia.
  • Europe: Nepal welcomed 21,988 travelers from European nations.
  • Americas: 11,032 tourists visited from the American region.
  • Oceania: 5,898 visitors arrived from countries like Australia and New Zealand.
  • West Asia (Middle East): 1,697 tourists were recorded.
  • Africa: 315 visitors arrived from African countries.
  • Others: An additional 6,846 tourists came from various other parts of the world.

Top Source Markets

India and China continue to lead as the primary source markets for Nepal.

  1. India: 25,196 tourists.
  2. China: 11,722 tourists.
  3. Bangladesh: 5,231 tourists.

The increasing number of visitors from Europe and the United States, alongside the strong Asian presence, suggests that Nepal’s tourism is becoming less dependent on a single market and is expanding globally.

Comparing with Previous Years

While the numbers remain strong, there was a slight decline compared to the record-breaking April of last year.

  • April 2025: 116,490 tourists.
  • April 2019 (Pre-pandemic): 109,399 tourists.

Experts believe that the minor drop in numbers this month is due to global challenges, including ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which have caused some disruptions in international flights and travel plans.

To maintain and grow these numbers, the Nepal Tourism Board emphasizes the need for more digital marketing and creative strategies. Presenting Nepal as a safe, peaceful, and attractive destination for all types of travelers remains a top priority to ensure the continued growth of the tourism economy.
